The150th Birth Anniversary of Renowned Russian author Anton Chekhov and the 120th anniversary of his visit to Sri Lanka are being commemorated. He died at the age of 44
A function was organized at the Galle Face Hotel where Anton Chekhov took lodging. The Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka organized the event. The Chekhov’s plaque was unveiled on the occasion. The special guest was Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris. Ministers Susil Premajayantha and Wimal Weerawansa and Russian Parliamentarian Elina Drapemo, who is also a Russian artiste as well as Russia’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Vladimir P. Mikhailov were present on the occasion.
