A Naval and Maritime Symposium on sustainable support for security and safety at sea was held at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo today.
It was organized in parallel to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy. The Symposium was held under the patronage of Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa. Representatives of Navies of 21 countries and Naval Chiefs of Australia, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates are participating. The purpose of this conference is to broach the action that should be initiated to consolidate Marine security thwarting sea terrorist activities, robberies as well as illegal operations. The conference provides a significant opportunity to exchange experiences of the contributions made by the Sri Lanka Navy in eliminating the three-decade old terrorism which was a scourge for the country. Among those who graced the occasion were chiefs of the Armed forces, the IGP and foreign diplomats.
