Tamil Leaders accuse Diaspora of putting lives of Tamils in danger

Tamil political leaders have accused the Tamil diaspora of attempting to put the lives of the Sri Lankan Tamils in danger again.

Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthy Mualitharan pointed out that that the Tamil Diaspora was gearing up to endanger the lives of the Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka who are now enjoying freedom. What they should do was to support in improving the livelihoods in the North and East. But, they are not doing so. Their only attempt was to sabotage the programme mooted by the government on behalf of their people. He pointed out that the British Government should also accept the responsibility over the cancellation of the President’s address to the Oxford Union. He queried whether Britain would permit Al Qaeda loyalists to display the Al Qaeda flag when the Pakistani President visits England.

Upcountry Leader and Parliamentarian P. Radhakrishnan said that the President had never made a reference that the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims were not being considered as separate groups. He had emphasized that there are no minority groups in the country. His desire is to make Sri Lanka Asia’s miracle. He strongly condemned efforts made by a handful to betray the country. As such, Mr Radhakrishnan emphasized that they would not support those who attempted to betray the country through their mischievous deeds.

Shivageetha Prabhakaran, the Batticaloa Mayor noted that the Tamil community was living happily and in freedom. They are concerned over the Tamil Diaspora working against their community in Sri Lanka. She said she totally deplored this programme on behalf of their community. The Sri Lankan Tamils were battered the 30-year old ruthless war. Mrs. Prabhakaran emphasized that they protest against attempts made by the foreign Tamil community to betray the lives of the Sri Lankan Tamil civilians.
