A man and his daughter are facing charges of abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult in the death of a 60-year-old West Columbia woman, the Lexington County Sheriffs Department announced this afternoon.
Robert Edward Tidwell, 61, and his daughter, Roberta Marie Young, 33, are charged in the death of Harriett Ruth Tidwell, 60, who was the mans wife and womans mother. All three lived on China Street in West Columbia, reports say.
Arrest warrants allege that Dec. 1, Harriett Ruth Tidwell was transported by ambulance from her home to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where medical personnel determined she weighed about 48 pounds, had numerous bed sores and was so emaciated that her spinal cord and ribs were clearly visible.
She died the next day as a result of abuse and neglect suffered at her home under the care of her husband and daughter, warrants allege.
Harriett Tidwell was bed-ridden after both of her legs were amputated about 14 years ago because of medical complications related to diabetes. She was married to her husband for more than 30 years.
