The first gold medal of the 2nd Asian Beach Games went to Saleh Mohammad of Syria who won the men’s km marathon swimming event here at the Al Muntab beach in Muscat a short while ago.
Unexpectedly the men’s 5km came to a tight finish with Saleh Mohammad of Syria and China’s Wenchao battling out hard to take the gold in the last few meters. But Saleh was able to secure the gold medal in the men’s event (1:00:14.4) and Wanchao XU (1:00:19.5) had to be satisfied with the Silver. The bronze medal went to Kazakhstan’s Yury Kudinov.(1:00:43.4)
China’s Xue Li (1:01:27.8) was the first woman gold medalist at the 2nd Asian Beach Games when she took away the gold medal in the women’s category . Yu Shi also from China took the silver while Natasha Tang of Hong Kong took the bronze.
The second batch of swimmers is expected to arrive today and they will be in action on the 11th of December in the 10km swimming marathon.
Today (9) in the evening the Sri Lanka beach volleyball team is expected to take part in the preliminary round matches at the Al Mussanah Sports City.
