DNA parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake has today (9) emphasized the need for a development plan for the country’s higher education sector.
He has told parliament that the government needed to come up with 10 year development plan for the sector.
However, he has noted that the living standards of the people should also be addressed simultaneously.
Explaining as to why the living standards of people should be addressed along with the development of higher education, Dissanayake has said that the normal cost for five years degree programme at a private university was approximately Rs. 90 million when the normal daily wage of 41% of the Sri Lankan population was less that US$ 2.
