The UNP today (11) claimed that the petition to prevent the party from holding its convention tomorrow was filed before court as part of a government contract.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the party was prepared to face any challenge and that was why it was able to get the court to reject the petition filed seeking an enjoining order against the UNP convention.
The Colombo District court yesterday (10) refused to issue an enjoining order preventing the UNP from holding the convention scheduled to take place tomorrow (12).
Attanayake said the party’s convention will be held tomorrow and the main objective of it is to pass the new party constitution which has been approved by the Working Committee.
According to him, the UNP would take a positive step towards the betterment of the party after tomorrow’s convention.
