The DNA has called on the government to release the names of Tamil persons who are either detained in custody or rehabilitation centers.
DNA Secretary and parliamentarian Vijitha Herath told a press conference that several gangs operating in the North were swindling money from parents promising to trace their children who have disappeared during the period of the war.
According to Herath, in some instances, these groups have extorted up to Rs. 500,000 from helpless parents.
He said that the government should therefore release the names of all the Tamil persons now held in custody or rehabilitation centers.
He added that there were around 8,000 such persons.
