The GCE Ordinary Level examination is being successfully conducted countrywide. Students of the North and East are also afforded an opportunity to face the examination.
The O’level examination is being conducted at 3804 centres. The number of candidates is 508 thousand 416. Of this, school candidates number 394 thousand 603. Private candidates total 113 thousand 813. The staff deployed exceeds 60 thousand. The examination will continue until the 23rd of this month.
Meanwhile, a notable feature is the rehabilitated child soldiers facing the examination. They number 175. Members of the Security forces and the teachers mediated throughout the year to support their studies.
45 girls and 130 boys are sitting the examination at the Tamil Primary School in Vavuniya. A centre has been established at Gamini Vidyalaya also in Vavuniya, for children of resettled families. They are representing the Mullaitivu and Vavuniya areas.
The examination is also progressing satisfactorily in the Jaffna and Vavuniya districts. Children of resettled families in the Batticaloa district are also sitting the examination. There are 9120 school candidates while the external candidates number 650. They are representing the Batticaloa district.
