Respect National Anthem – President

Dec 13, 2010 11:02:09 AM - itnnews.lk

In the meantime, the President emphasised that it is the responsibility of everyone to respect the National Anthem.

A wide discussion has surfaced in society with regard to the behaviour of a group, including the UNP hierarchy when the National Anthem was played at the end of the Convention staged at the Party’s Siri Kotha head office yesterday.

It was clearly seen as to how certain politicians behaved when the national anthem was played. The President expressed views in this respect when he met Samurdhi Development officers today.

The President queried whether this was what they expected from society? Was it proper for leaders to insult the national anthem in this manner? The President pointed out that this was not a baila song.

They were prepared to dance to it. He emphasized that everyone should respect the national anthem and the national flag. This culture should be eliminated form the country. This national feeling should resurface. He pointed out that no one can be permitted to destroy it.

The manner in which the participants of the ceremony dispersed in a disciplinary manner at the end of the function presided by the President was clearly visible.
