President Rajapaksa has emphasized that the Government’s target is to make the Samurdhi recipients a prosperous lot.
The President said he was aware that they needed permanency. He assured that he would not permit them to become Samurdhi recipients once they retire. As such, no one should have fear about their jobs. A pension scheme was being drafted for the benefit of the Samurdhi Officers.
He told them not to fear that they would become Samurdhi recipients. What he expected from them was to serve the country according to their conscience. The Samurdhi officers were doing a service to the people. He added that they considered this service as a God’s service.
The President was addressing the 11th National Convention of the All Ceylon Samurdhi Development and Agricultural Research Production Assistant Officers Association. It was held at Temple Trees.
While paying tribute to the President for liberating the country from terrorism, the event was used by the Officials of the association to present a memorandum with regard to some demands related to their profession.
The President granted the Cooperative loan and Welfare benefits to the persons concerned. Minister S.M. Chandrasena, Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana also expressed their views.
