Benefits provided under the National Housing programme have been increased by 400 percent.
Giving his views, Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that the National Housing Development Authority with the financial sponsorship of the Government is making a vital contribution to provide houses for the destitute families. The Government’s allocations to the Housing Development Authority for next year have been increased by 400 percent. He added he would not renege on the work that has been mooted to meet the housing needs of the urban population, not only in collaboration with all the main institutions, but also procuring foreign credit.
The Minister was speaking after opening the “Jana Sevena Mandapaya” of the Jana Sevena Housing Programme’s Operations Centre. It has been established at Pelawatte in Battaramulla. The Centre will handle the granting of facilities to homeless families and collecting data on house construction countrywide. In addition, the Jana Sevena website was also launched.
