Indigenous medicinal science to be uplifted

Minister S.B. Dissanyake points out that the Higher Education Ministry is geared to uplift the indigenous medicinal science.

The Minister said the entire University network is being uplifted to a new standard with a new vision. He opined that any of the lecturers could meet him at least once a month so that they would be able to solve their problems. The issue encountered by the lecturers and students are not serious. The Government has the necessary funds to launch several projects. The Minister said that foreign aid too has been received. They could undertake novel things for the New Year. He hoped that the staff would dedicate themselves towards achieving this task. The Minister pointed out that it was their obligation to do their utmost for students to pursue their studies in a disciplinary manner.

The Minister undertook an inspection tour of the Indigenous Medicinal Science Institution in Rajagiriya. Its Director Dr. R.S. Jayasinghe briefed the Minister on the present situation and problems. The Minister expressed his consent to provide the required financial grant for the production of quality drugs and solve many problems including the modernization of the students’ hostel. Attention was also directed to improving the Unani system of medicine. The Minister said a special discussion with the Minister for Indigenous Medicine will be summoned soon to address the issues. Ministry Secretary Sunil Jayantha Navaratne, lecturers and the Educational and non academic staff were present.
