President Rajapaksa has said that the responsibilities that should be fulfilled today should not be postponed for tomorrow. He stressed that the sole responsibility of the public servants was to serve the country and the people.
The President said the public service was a God’s service. Appointments were being granted from one corner of the country to another to serve the people. They should serve the people devoid of community and religious differences. The President said the tears of the people were wiped out of those who seek their assistance, they will be much satisfied. Officials should work from the bottom of their hearts. They should ask for themselves whether they had been fair on their part in imparting their duties. The President was confident that newly appointed officials would render an efficient service.
The President was speaking at a function Temple Trees. It was organized to handover appointment letters to 135 government servants who scored the highest marks in the 2009 open competitive examination of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. This is the first time a President has handed over letters of appointment letters to offifials of the Administrative Service.
Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said administrative officials who render speedy service at the regional level will be given priority in the selection for foreign tours. Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabral delivered the guest speech. Members of the Maha Sangha, Deputy Minister Vijaya Dahanayake, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Government officials were present.
