Court grants leave to proceed with petition of TNA MP

Dec 17, 2010 10:26:00 AM - itnnews.lk

The Supreme Court has granted leave to proceed with the petition submitted by Digamadulla District Parliamentarian G.H. Piyasena against the TNA decision to revoke his party membership.

The Court has issued notices on the Tamil National Alliance and its General Secretary to file any objections related to the case before the 18th of next month. The petitioner said that he had voted in favour of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution with the Government. As such, he claimed that the TNA had taken a decision to revoke his membership without resorting to any disciplinary inquiry. The Parliamentarian in his petition wants the judiciary to state that the decision of the Party is illegal.
