President Rajapaksa has said that he is prepared to mould a new generation of farmers armed with modern technology to face up to international community.
The President said he is the happiest person to hear about the improvement of the farmers’ economies. Today the farmers are gradually becoming entrepreneurs. Their income from agricultural produce is exempted from income tax. A distorted society that does not respect the National Flag cannot be created. As leaders they should set an example to their families and society. That is how a generation of people who love the country can be created.
The President was speaking at a ceremony at the Magampura Institute of Agro Technology and Rural sciences last evening to hand over certificates to those who had completed the Diploma course on Agriculture Technology. It was for the first time that a diploma had presented for those who were engaged in agriculture in Sri Lanka. Around 50 farmers received the diploma. The Magampura Agro Technology and Rural Sciences Institute has provided facilities for the farming community to receive information relevant to agriculture.
