Minister S.B. Dissanayake has underscored that the establishment of private universities will not have any impact on State universities.
The Minister said that they are prepared to compete with private universities, displaying the efficiency. He emphasized that their determination was to carry forward the country towards a proper direction mainly for the benefit of the future of the students and the posterity. As such, he pointed out that no one should have fear of this new policy. Proper decisions had to be taken and implemented in the proper direction.
The Minister was addressing a workshop to broach changes that should be effected in the higher education sector and the related plans for the new-year. The workshop which commenced in Colombo today will end tomorrow. It is being attended by Vice chancellors, heads of higher educational institutions, Deans of faculties and Directors. Deputy Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake and Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Gamini Samarasinghe were present at the inauguration of the workshop today.
