The visiting World Bank Managing Director tours the Batticaloa District.
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday. She seized the opportunity of touring Batticaloa today to get herself acquainted with the prevailing situation. She visited the Thiraimada, a village where families displaced by the Tsunami have been resettled. The people of the village gave her a warm welcome. The World Bank Managing Director, who was upbeat about the conditions prevailing, also monitored the progress of institutions which are operating with their assistance. Several officials were present on this occasion.
