It is with great relief that we motorists observed the removal of security check points in the city of Colombo.
We are all aware that this move is the result of the security threat within and outside the city reducing to zero. We are also told by the President that as a result of the war ending, anyone could travel from Point Pedro in the north to Dondra in the south and again from Colombo in the west to Batticaloa in the east. So, then why have huge security escorts for ministers, members of parliament and others, at tremendous cost to the country. Is it a mere status symbol?
