Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said that foreign exchange spent on higher education will be saved in the country by setting up private universities.
The Minister said that the government will not privatize the State Universities. It will also not permit private universities to pose a threat to the state universities. He said that the state revenue will increase when foreign students enter these universities. In addition millions of rupees spent by the Sri Lankan students to pursue higher education in foreign universities will also be saved. The Minister made this observation while commencing the development work of the Davulagala –Penideniya road. 245 million rupees has been set apart for road development. Deputy Minister Nirmala Kotalawala also participated in the occasion.
