The pilgrimage season began with the dawning of the Unduwap full moon Poya Day. The procession carrying the jewelleries of the deity was held yesterday. The casket containing the relics, the sacred objects and the statue of God Saman were taken out from the Galpottawala Raja Maha Vihare in Pelmadulla amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith by the Maha Sangha. Many people along with Ministers and Parliamentarians were present to pay their obeisance.
The pilgrimage season begins after the sacred objects are placed in the Uda Maluwa. Chief Incumbent of the Sri Pada Ven. Handapangoda Wimala Thera said that the Sabaragamuva Provincial Council along with other local bodies has taken all measures to provide facilities to the pilgrims.
