The Lankan crew released by Somali pirates on the 7th of this month will arrive in the island soon.
The crew of the Saudi Arabian oil tanker was seized by Somali pirates in early March. They are due in the country this week. A crew consisting of 13 Sri Lankan citizens and one citizen of Greece were on board when captured in the Gulf of Aden. It is reported that the freed crew members have currently arrived in Oman. The Lankans are scheduled to return to Sri Lanka following discussions with the officials of the Saudi Arabian Company that owns the tanker.
The Somali pirates had demanded 20 million dollars for the release of the ship and its crew. An undisclosed amount is reported to have been paid for the release of the crew.
