The Okra Strut is on hold this fall. Lack of a site and high turn-over among festival leaders led Irmo Town Council late Tuesday to suspend the popular gathering until 2011.
The festival began in 1973. Its proceeds are used for scholarships, community projects and school improvements. The gathering attracts crowds up to 55,000 annually.
Some residents and merchants have complained about the noise and traffic the two-day event creates.
