A special license will be issued for vehicles that transport school children from January.
The National Child Protection Authority, the Association of School Van Owners and Civil Defence Transport Union have jointly launched the programme. The License is being provided after considering the 20 thousand applications received by the Transport Commission. The Motor Traffic Commissioner’s office said that licenses will be issued for all school vans in the Western Province in the first phase. Licenses will be issued for school vans in all regions in the Island during the next few months. The vehicles that have not obtained licenses will be banned from engaging in school transport.
