The government has decided to launch a special programme to address the human elephant conflict.
The Agrarian Services and Wildlife Ministry has decided to launch the programme to prevent elephants from rampaging villages.
Wildlife and Agrarian Services Minister S.M. Chandrasena has said the use of bees to prevent elephants entering human habitats was a method practiced in many countries.
The Wildlife Department is to use bees to prevent elephants from entering into villages from next month.
Chandrasena has said that while honeybee colonies will be set up in corridors through which elephants enter villages, it could also help generate an income to the villagers.
