Imports to down prices

The Government yesterday reassured that the shortage of certain essential commodities will be quelled soon by importing such items to the country.
According to Trade Marketing, Cooperative and Consumer Affairs Minister Johnston Fernando, the Government will make every possible effort to ensure that consumers are not affected by the shortage of certain essential commodities which resulted in the increase in prices of such items in the open market.
He said the adverse weather pattern that existed in the country has led to the shortage of B’onions in the open market.
They will be imported from Pakistan as soon as possible and should reach the market soon, the Minister said.
