A man has pleaded guilty in the September 2008 beating death of a Darlington County store owner with an ax handle.
Multiple media outlets report that 39-year-old Eddie Huggins was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday after pleading guilty to murder.
Huggins was arrested in early October 2008 as he stepped off a bus in Pittsburgh.
Authorities say surveillance video several days earlier showed Huggins beating 57-year-old Keith Hancock to death at his gardening store with an ax handle. The video showed the attacker pretending to buy the handle before beating Hancock with it.
Police say Huggins had grown up in Hartsville but had been released from prison in Virginia shortly before the attack.
