The United Nations Secretary General’ Panel of Experts on Sri Lanka has not made a final decision on visiting Sri Lanka but was working on potential arrangements.
Acting Deputy Spokesperson for Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Farhan Haq told a media conference in New York yesterday (23) that the Panel was discussing possible arrangements, but there was no trip to announce at present.
“At this stage, there is nothing to announce. We’re working on potential arrangements, so we are in touch with the Sri Lankan authorities. The Panel, that is to say, is in touch. I have talked to the Panel and I know that those discussions are continuing. But at this stage we don’t have an announcement to make on this,” he said.
Responding to a question posed by a journalist, Haq said that the UN Panel’s work was boarder than the LLRC and would therefore deal with other parties as well.
“It’s clear that the Panel’s work is broader than simply dealing with the LLRC,” Haq said.
