More support for the Reconciliation Commission

The Inter Agency Committee has stressed that it is prepared to assist the future activities of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.

The Inter Agency Committee was appointed under the Chairmanship of Attorney General Mohan Peiris to assist the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission appointed by the President for future restructuring. The Inter Agency Committee has made a number of decisions after studying the interim recommendations made by the Reconciliation Commission. Accordingly if the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission needs to further investigate any facts presented before it, the Inter Agency Committee will carry out this task. Information can be continuously provided to the next of kin of the detainees through the use of Information Technology. The Inter Agency Committee has pledged to make every effort to provide all necessary information regarding rehabilitation and resettlement in the North and East to the conflict affected people and the public.

The Committee has continuously provided advice to the law enforcement authorities regarding seizing of illegal weapons. The Inter Agency Committee which was setup on a Cabinet decision will study the information provided by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission and provide continuous advice with regard to implementation of the decisions.
