The United States has commended the Sir Lankan government’s efforts in resettling most of those who were displaced due to the war.
US Ambassador in Colombo Patricia Butenis, speaking after donating five ambulances to the Sri Lanka Army in Colombo, commended the Government’s efforts in resettling most of those who were internally displaced by the war. Praising the Sri Lankan Army and the local and international NGOs for successful de-mining operations in the country, she said “due to the heroic efforts of the Sri Lankan Army and local and international de-mining organizations, large areas of the North and East are now cleared of mines. She said however, much work still remains and their continuing support will enable the speedy completion of the process. She noted that de-mining is an essential element of this resettlement process and said that the mines have meant that people can’t return to their homes.
