Special bus and train services are operating from today for the festive season. The SLTB has deployed 862 while many additional trains are also operating.
Vice Chairman of the SLTB L.A. Wimalaratne told the media that 862 buses are deployed for long distance services. 1800 buses are operating in mainly Catholic areas such as Negombo and Moratuwa. In addition 90 buses have been deployed to cover all these areas. He revealed that arrangements had been made to operate a bus every 15 minutes from Colombo to Kandy and Colombo to Hatton.
Director Planning of the Sri Lanka Railways Department Vijaya Samarasinghe pointed out that that they had finalized arrangements to operate a special intercity service from Colombo Fort to Bandarawela. This service will operate up to the 2nd of next month. They intended to add one more compartment to all trains that are operating. This he added will enable to accommodate more commuters.
