The pealing of Church bells at midnight today will herald the dawn of another Christmas.
Christians throughout the world celebrates another Christmas, the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. It was on such a day that Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
Sri Lankans will celebrate Christmas in a peaceful atmosphere since the routing of terrorism. The three decade old scourge was wiped out of the country due to the prudent leadership of President Rajapakse. As such Sri Lankan Christians are celebrating Christmas for the first time in a very peaceful atmosphere, sans fear and suspicion. Devotees will throng Churches throughout the country to participate in midnight mass to engage in religious observances at the time of birth of the Prince of Peace. Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith will celebrate midnight mass at St. Sebestian’s Church Moratuwa.
In the meantime, the Jaffna civilians are displaying a keen enthusiasm in celebrating Christmas. They are happy that real peace was now prevailing in the area. At the same time shops were filled with people who were getting ready to celebrate the festival. Traders are upbeat that they had been able to enhance their earnings. There were also many people who had come to the town to visit their relatives for Christmas.
