The government has said that the resettlement of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North was continuing satisfactorily.
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the media in response to a statement made by Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi that the resettlement process in Sri Lanka continued despite several shortcomings.
According to Rambukwella, the shortcomings were bound to happen when dealing with a large number of IDPs like 300,000. The government states that 90 percent of the IDPs have been resettled.
India’s Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently accused the Sri Lankan government of “not doing enough” for the Tamils and said that he would ensure that they get justice.
There are 12,000 to 15,000 IDPs who are remaining to be resettled, the Minister said.
