The Power and Energy Ministry is to set up a Solar Power Farm (SPF) in the Hambantota District by mid 2011.
Once completed the Solar Power Farm is expected to add 1237 MWs to the national grid.
Issuing a statement, the Power and Energy Ministry stated that the Solar Power Farm would be established in two stages at Barutankanda in the Hambantota District.
Financial assistance for the first stage is to provided by the South Korean government. The first stage is to expected to add 737 Mws to the national grid.
The second stage is to be financed by the Japanese government and is expected to add 500Mws to the national grid.
The Ministry states that the South Korean and Japanese governments would provide Rs. 1,537 million for the project while the Sri Lankan government would provide Rs. 114 million.
