Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that the development war in an independent Sri Lanka has now commenced.
The Minister said it is an uphill task to make Sri Lanka a developed country after being a least developed country for 60 years rather than the issue which plagued the island for 30 years. However, hopes can be placed in overcoming this situation as vast development was now taking place in the country. He pointed out that not only the World Bank and the IMF but even many economic experts have endorsed the success of the Government’s economic programme. The Minister pointed out that as they won the freedom war, they were sure to achieve success in the development war.
The Minister was speaking after vesting in the public, the Pragathi Mawatha and Jayagath Mawath in Kahathuduwa. These were improved under the programme of developing the country by improving the village. The required grants for this work was provided by the Economic Development Minsitry. Financial assistance and housing assistance were provided to families of war heroes who made supreme sacrifices during the humanitarian operation. Minister Bandula Gunawardena also addressed the gathering.
