Christmas was celebrated round the country, irrespective of differences.
The main mass which was celebrated by Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith was held at st. Sebastian’s Church in Moratuwa. St. Anthony’s Church Kochchikade and St. Lucia’s Cathedral at Kotahena were among the many other churches where masses were celebrated to mark the birth of Christ.
A notable feature was the celebration of festive high masses in churches in the North and East. The main Christmas mass of the Batticaloa district was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Batticaloa. Many Christian devotees also participated in religious ceremonies throughout today.

St. Mary’s Church Jaffna was another place where Christian devotees in large numbers thronged to participated in the Christmas mass with peace being established in the area.
A Carol service was held at the Holy Cross Church in Kalutara. The service was organized under the auspices of Rev. Fr. Camillus Fernando. The distribution of gifts among children of low income families was a highlight.
