It is reported that there is a danger of the spread of AH1N1 influenza during the festive season in the urban areas. The Health Ministry has requested the general public to be cautious.
The people will be susceptible to catch the disease at public places such as shopping complexes, post offices and others. The Health Ministry has decided to carry out checks in such places on the advice of Minister Maithripala Sirisena. The Minister has informed the officials to notify the shop keepers and relevant sectors in writing in this regard. An island-wide programme has been launched to raise awareness in the people about preventive measures. The Ministry has launched a vaccination programme for vulnerable sections such as pregnant mothers and people with breathing disorders.
