A dedicated firefighter and community leader in Chester died in a car crash on Christmas Eve.
Robert Stewart Boyd Jr., 39, of 1625 Pinckney Road in Chester died of head trauma after he was ejected from his vehicle, Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said.
Boyd was a lieutenant with the Chester City Fire Department.
Boyd was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina east on Baton Rouge Road in Chester at 6:20 p.m. Friday when the car ran off the left side of the road, overturned and struck a tree, said Trooper Billy Elder of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Boyd and a passenger, Joe Williams Gore, 49, of Chester, were ejected from the car. Neither was wearing a seat belt, Elder said.
