The Acting Director of the Epidemiology Department Dr. Sudath Peiris said that more than one million people in the vulnerable groups have been already vaccinated.
He said that 370 cases and three deaths had been reported due to the influenza. It is difficult to prevent the disease as it spreads through the respiratory system. The World Health Organization has donated 1.5 million vaccines. Over one million people in the targeted groups including pregnant mothers, who suffer from chronic diseases, health workers and government officials engaged in essential services are vaccinated against the disease. He pointed out that during the next two weeks the remaining 500,000 individuals will be vaccinated in order to control the pandemic.
