The Katunayake Customs have seized a stock of Conch shells worth about 800,000 rupees. These were readied to be exported.
The stock was seized at the Asian Container yard at Sedawatte when preparations were being made to dispatch the stock in a container to India. It was planned to use the Conch shells for jewellery production. Although the weight had been specified as 17,587 kilograms, Deputy Customs Director Samantha Gunasekera said it was more than the weight mentioned.
