Sri Lanka and India will hold a joint Naval exercise in the Sri Lankan territorial limits next year.
These views were expressed when the visiting Indian Defence Secretary met President Rajapaksa. The meeting took place at Temple Trees today. The Indian Defence Secretary asserted that attention would be drawn to further enhancing defence ties which are successfully taking place between the two countries. Pradeep Kumar referred to the initiatives they had planned to grant many training opportunities for Sri Lankan Military personnel. Plans are afoot to stage an Indian Air Show marking the Diamond Jubilee of the Sri Lankan Air Force. He emphasized that the intention of his country was to further consolidate ties between the two countries, not only in the defence sector but all other fields. Minister Basil Rajapaksa, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa and India’s High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ashok K. Kantha were present at this discussion.
