Massive effort to control AH1N1

A massive programme is being planned countrywide to control the AH1N1 virus. It is being handled by the Health Ministry.

At present, the influenza virus is spreading in several areas. Many programmes have been planned to control the situation. The related sectors have already taken action to give the next influenza vaccine to the people to control the spread of the pandemic. A special clinic was organized at the Polonnaruwa General hospital to provide the vaccine.

Even the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has unveiled a programme to give the vaccine. It was the Chief Minister Mahipala Herath who had obtained the vaccine initially to ally fears that prevail among the public. Thereafter, the Provincial Cabinet and senior officials of the Provincial Councils had obtained the vaccine. The Health Ministry has issued instructions that groups which frequent congested areas should obtain this vaccine.

Meanwhile, Senior Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Peiris of the Health Ministry said special instructions have been given to take appropriate measures to provide the AH1N1 vaccine to expectant mothers before Friday. They had been identified as a risk group to this pandemic.
