The relief pricing formula for electricity consumers will continue to remain unchanged up to the first 120 units on the instructions of the President. This announcement was made by Director General of the Public Utilities Commission Dhamitha Kumarasinghe.
The Director General said that there would be no increase in electricity bills for those who consume up to 120 units. There would be a decline in the electricity bills of Government hospitals, schools and Universities by 25 percent. He also said that there would be no increase in the bills for small and medium scale entrepreneurs.
Chairman of the Commission Dr. Jayatissa de Costa noted that they have planned to adhere to reasonable and transparency policies recognized internationally on methods of charges identifying the real unit expenditure of the Electricity Board.
The Chairman said that their Commission was vested with the responsibility of presenting a set of proposals which would induce the economic growth at a time when the country was at a substantial level of witnessing development after the end of a ruthless war.
