The Ministry of Higher Education has decided to introduce an English Course for the students who have passed the G.C.E. A/Level Examination and had secured University admission.
The G.C.E. O/Level Examination comprises a general English paper. The Ministry points out that certain students avoid answering this. Therefore Minister S.B. Dissanayake said the new English course is being introduced for the students who enter the Universities. It will be made compulsory for all students to sit the A Level English paper. It will not be necessary to pass the English paper to enter the Universities although the students will have to sit the English paper to be eligible for University admission. The English courses will be based on the number of marks secured by the students for this paper.
