The Yal Devi train which is plying on the peace path to the North is prepared to reach another Railway station. The Northern train will run up to Omanthai from next month.
The massive project to build the rail track beyond Vavuniya after the total liberation of the North by routing terrorism from the motherland, is now being implemented. The train is already operating up to Thandikulam via Vavuniya. The extension of the rail track and the rebuilding of stations are now in progress incurring a colossal expenditure. To reach Kankesanthurai in Jaffna, 159 kilometres of the rail track had to be rebuilt from Vavuniya. It includes 16 railway stations and 12 sub stations. Many state and private sector institutions have assumed the responsibility of constructing them which will cost nearly 420 billion rupees. Construction of the track from Thandikulam to Omanthai is in the final stage. Accordingly, the Railway department is confident that it would be possible to operate the Yal Devi train up to Omanthai from next month.
