Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has reiterated that there is no change in the Government’s stand on the un Panel on Sri Lanka. It can testify before the Reconciliation Commission. However, the Minister emphasized that the Government is not prepared to permit the panel to undertake an inquiry in Sri Lanka.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet news briefing, the Minister asserted that as an independent panel, they would not be permitted to undertake a probe in Sri Lanka. There is no change in this stand. The situation now is different. The World Body Chief had made a request, and he had referred to Sri Lanka’s response as flexible, that is, if they were willing they could testify before the Commission appointed by the President. But there is a major difference. That is the panel holding an inquiry and testifying before the Commission are two different versions. The Minister pointed out that some had misinterpreted this.
