The Disaster Management Centre is continuously providing relief to families impact by torrential rain in the North and East. Heavy rain is being experienced in Districts such as Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Ampara and Trincomalee Districts. Nearly 364,000 families are affected by this calamity.
Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili said that families affected in the Batticaloa have taken shelter in Welfare Camps. He said they had set up 85 such camps. In addition to providing food and other requirements to these families action has been taken to meet all their other requirements. The necessary grants have been handed over to the District Secretaries and if necessary the Centre is prepared to release more grants.
