Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has called upon all parties concerned to leave the differences and be united for the progress of the country in the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthi Year.
The Prime Minister said that the President has declared the year as Sambuddha year to mark the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthi. He said that his aim is to create a developed society. He noted that in addition to Buddhism, there are three other main religions. It is expected to launch a programme for their spiritual development as well as that of the Buddhists. One of the targets of the year is to develop Sri Lanka to be to a nation of spiritually developed people.
The Prime Minister who called on the Maha Nayake of the Malwatte Chapter the most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera and Maha Nayake of the Asgiriya Chapter the most Ven. Udugama sri Buddharakkhitha Thera expressed this view. Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake accompanied the Prime Minister.
