The Freedom Alliance is prepared to face a local Government election amidst the development activities launched in rural areas after the elimination of terrorism.
General Secretary of UPFA Susil Premajayantha said that a meeting was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the leaders of other parties. It was decided to form a committee at the national level and 25 other committees at the district level. He said that those committees will be set up before the end of this week. The district committees will decide the number of candidates allocated for each party and the interviews will be held at the district level. All local government institutions in the country will be dissolved during the next two weeks. It is believed that the local government election will be held in mid May. The UPFA has decided to contest all local government areas this year and applications are being accepted from the candidates until next Wednesday.
