The University of Sabaragamuwa has been temporarily closed due to several incidents related to ragging taking within the university premises.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University had asked all students within the university premises to leave the area by Sunday (2) morning.
The university administration has said the decision to temporarily close the university was made after receiving several complaints of first year female students being ragged by senior students.
Several students had reportedly fallen ill as a result of the ragging.
However, the Students Union of the Sabaragamuwa University has objected to the closure of the university and has called on the administration board to re-open it.
